i have always loved the fair. i used to show horses in the fair but now that i older i don't have time for showing anymore. but i still ride and that's what counts. i have always wanted to work @ the fair in the livestock area. i still remember when my friends and i were still very young we would go to the fair everyday and have loads of fun! that will still continue!
I entered a quilt at the fair when I was in my teens. I didn't win, but everyone seeing my quilt and commenting on it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to introducing my children to the Nevada County Fair.

Hi...I lived in Nevada County for 34 years before moving to So. Cal. My family and I attended the fair every year. I only moved because of marriage....Knowing that my husband has never experienced anything like our fair, I brought him her last year! He loved it! My step-daughter still talks about all the food! We will be back again this year just for the fair! Nevada County will always be my home and I will be back someday....Patty
I love the fair Ilove the music and the animals and the show it is also a way for you to see people that you have not seen in a long time.
I love the Nevada County Fair, it is nestled in the woods making it cooler,rustic and very laid back. It is also flat, so no steep hills to climb. The venders have so much to choose from and the food is out of this world. Can't wait for fried vegetables and sweet corn on the cob. I was in the 4-H as a child so seeing and smelling all the livestock brings back memories. The fair always has great events to choose from, esp. the demolition derby and monster trucks. Can't wait for fair time.

I love this fair! After moving up here in 1991, there were several years where I entered a slew of baked goods (and even got them to create a new category for me!), and was tickled pink to bring home a rainbow of ribbons each year. (But why, I wonder, are the days just before and during our fair almost always the hottest days of the year? ;-) Hats off to all those who continue to bake their goodies in all that heat!
After experiencing the fairs of other counties, where the entire experience is coated and permeated with dust, it is so refreshing to go to our fairgrounds with its fresh green grass, fragrant conifers, and all those cheerful marigolds!
I just love the wide assortment of live music, the horticulture exhibits, and all those wonderfully creative arts and crafts entries - plus, of course, eating my way through Treat Street (which takes planning and pacing, I gotta tell ya! ;-) My favorite demos are things like the dog agility and animal races (one year it was piglets! this year it's going to be puppies).
Now I'm disabled, and trying to figure out how to hobble all over the fair and see everything I want to before my legs give out. So if you see a short, round, middle-aged woman with a cane and a big poodle service dog, come over and say hi! Meeting local friends, and making new ones, is the best part of the Fair, hands down.
I absolutely adore the Nevada County Fair! I was born and raised in Grass Valley and have been participating in the fair for as long as I can remember. As a former4-H member I always entered one of my chickens in the fair and did showmanship with it. I also entered several flower arrangements, sewing projects, baked goods, and other misc. still exhibits. Some of the highlights of the fair for me over the past years were the year our family won family of the year because of the essay I wrote, selling my turkeys and chickens at the Jr. livestock auction, winning the sweepstakes for my flower arrangements one year and winning the haybucking contest with my sister. Of course the carnival rides and the food are always a very fun and festive part for me. In the last two years I have also enjoyed entering the "chocoholic" contest and/or the "salsa cookoff." I can hardly wait for the fair to begin this year, and I am especially excited about attending the demolition derby with my friends. Thanks for all the great memories and promise for future fun Nevada County Fair!!

i grew up in auburn and thought the fair and carnival in auburn was the best. then one year my friend entered his baja truck in the tough truck contest at the nevada county fair. i went with him sitting on a milk crate with a seat belt in a truck that i am sure was not street legal and driven by a dear lunatic to the nevada county fair. i was awestruck by the sight and quickly forgot my harrowing ride as it was worth it! the weather is nice, the grounds are nice and i have not been back to the auburn fair since. the nevada county fair is spacious and clean and the people are just downright nice. food and carnival games and animals and arena events and displays and food and, did i say food twice? i dont know anyone that lives in the area but i see old friends every year!

My favorite thing to do at the fair is eat at all the local venues on treat street like the corndogs. Most of the places benefit local charities. That makes the food taste even better. I think I'll try the mechanical bull this year, YAHOO!
The Draft Horse Classic is one of the most enjoyable events I've attended in recent years. The fairgrounds are exceptionally beautiful, the event is well managed, and with the Harvest Fair, it includes everything I love: big horses, horsedrawn vehicles, art, music and a chance to shop!
Years ago I had the pleasure of living in Grass Valley and got my first taste of Nevada City Fairgrounds. It has to be the best fairgrounds I have ever been to, surrounded by beautiful towering pines it's the ultimate combination of nature, fun and down to earth people. Since moving back to Sacramento I have not had a chance to attend the fairs but have made a commitment to come out to the Harvest Festival and Christmas Fair this year. I am excited and also plan to attend the Draft Horse Classic to share my love of horses with my 3 year old daughter who is already in love with these majestic animals. See you all there!
My kids LOVE the fair! Gosh, all that yummy foor, crunchy corn dogs, tacos, you name it, I've tried it. The ONLY bad thing about the fair is that I tend to gain weight :-( Last years fire display was great. You are all doing a great job!
We have been coming to the fair every year since 2000 and it's one of the highlights of our summer - we always look forward to it!
I love the Draft Horse Classic! I have been coming every year for 8 years, and it seems to get better every year. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The classes and performances are outstanding. Even for non-horse lovers it is a great show.
The Nevada County fairgrounds are beautiful! I come to the clogging jamboree during the Draft Horse Classic. I love to wander around checking out the cool stuff the vendors have to offer and enjoy the great setting! Thanks for leaving space for us cloggers--it's one of the best workshops!

I couldn't agree more that the Nevada County Fairgrounds is "California’s Most Beautiful Fairgrounds". It is always kept clean and now is even going "Green", save the planet. My family as lived in Grass Valley for a long time, over 50 years. We attended the fair every year that I lived there. I can't really call it home since I now live in Oregon. The last few years my wife and I return to see my brother perform in the GV Draft Horse Classic. She wants to move here. What a perfect setting for such a world class event!

Draft Horse Classic for newbies-
It would be really good to have a section that defines terms. Newbies to the Draft Horse Classic won't know what 'Americana', 'Unicorn', 'Singles, Men's Pleasure' really are, so it's difficult for us to choose which performance to attend.
I believe having a glossary will strike the balance between generating excitement for new audiences and keeping them from being bored.

The Nevada County fair was great as always. The kids loved the Xtreme Motorcross and Monster Truck show. We even had the pleasure to ride in the monster truck before the show, it was awesome.The food was yummy, the people were friendly,there were a ton of carnival rides, and yes, we won 2 goldfish. I even saw my mother in law clogging up on stage.(had no idea she was performing, what a treat). Wish the fair would never end. Looking forward to the Draft Horse Show and Harvest Fair.

I have been to every DHC in the last ten year minus two- and that is including this year. I lost my job due to the downturn in the market and can't afford to go!
I am a big advocate for the Draft Horse and have even written a few articles about it!
The Fairgrounds are the loveliest in California. If I lived in Nevada City/Grass Valley I'd be so proud of them. Make sure everyone you know goes at least once to the fabulous Draft Horse Classic.
